Toyota Way, a set of principles and values that guide the company's management, production, and corporate culture. The Toyota Way is built on two main pillars:
1. Continuous Improvement (Kaizen - 改善)
Challenge: Always strive for long-term goals with creativity and courage.
Kaizen: Continuously improve processes, products, and people.
Genchi Genbutsu (現地現物): "Go and see" – make decisions based on firsthand observation.
2. Respect for People
Respect: Value employees, partners, and customers.
Teamwork: Encourage collaboration and mutual trust.
Supporting Principles:
Just-in-Time (JIT): Produce only what is needed, reducing waste.
Jidoka (自働化): Automation with a human touch – machines stop when defects are detected.
Elimination of Waste (Muda, 無駄): Remove inefficiencies in processes (based on the Toyota Production System - TPS).
Core Values:
Long-term thinking over short-term gains.
Quality first (built into processes).
Responsibility to society (sustainability, safety, and community).
The Toyota Way has influenced global manufacturing (e.g., Lean Manufacturing) and remains central to Toyota’s success in efficiency, innovation, and employee engagement.
